What I’ve Been Up To

Summer Cook

It’s been awhile since my last post. I’ve been busy working to get ready for 2015 and haven’t had much time for an update. Here’s a quick run down of the  things that I’ve been up to.

1) I joined the Triathlon Squad. I now live in San Diego, more specifically Powadise, and bask in the California sunshine on a daily basis while being coached by Paulo Sousa and getting super fit/skilled/excited for the 2015 season. I feel really fortunate to have the opportunity to be part of such a dedicated and all around supportive group. I spent most of 2014 without much stability and I’m fired up to be settling into patterns of consistency as part of a crew that is committed to chasing excellence on a daily basis. I couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store!

Lake Poway. Its not hilly or anything.

2) I had my first yacht experience. This is obviously something that every triathlon team does all the time. NBD. Thanks to Andrew Duggan/Equal Earth for making this happen!

3) LOTS of arts and crafts. Its been nice to have something to keep me sane while I do the hardest training of my life. I learned last year how important it is to have something to do outside of triathlon that doesn’t involve a screen. I  find the calligraphy to be especially soothing. The crafts also seem to be helping to improve my impatience problem 😉

4) LOTS of experimenting in the kitchen. Why have a boring routine when recipes for things like black bean chili with chocolate and coconut exist?

5) NAU runner Matt McElroy trained with the squad over his winter break and Flotrack visited to film a day of training and learn about his transition to triathlon. As someone who recently transitioned to triathlon I think that the interviews with Matt really capture what transitioning from single sport to multisport is like, plus there is some cool footage of our awesome training venues! Watch here.

6) I’m opening up my ITU season in Clermont and Sarasota in March. Last year I raced the EDRs in Clermont so I’m excited to have the opportunity to race there again as an elite with a whole year of triathlon wisdom and experience under my belt. I can also honestly say that for the first time in my triathlon career I’m excited about how training is going. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to see where I’m at going into the season after all the progress I’ve made in Poway this winter!
